The Friends List helps you to find, chat with, and send your GoPet to any logged-in member of your immediate social network. Its format is very similar to those used by many popular instant message clients: it is a list of names that indicates the login status and location of each member in the list. The major way in which this interface differs from the instant message clients you’ve seen before is that by double-clicking on a name, you can see a list of that person’s friends. As long as a member of the network is within two degrees of separation from you, their login status is visible to you and you can chat with them.

How to Open the Friends List Dialog:
Left-click on the Friends button on the Main Menu

1. Instant Chat Button

To deploy the Instant Chat dialog and chat with someone on this list, left-click their row to select them, then left-click on the Instant Chat button.

2. Send IKU Button

To deploy the IKU Palette and send an IKU to someone on this list, left-click their row to select them, then left-click on the Send IKU button.

3. Send Pet Button

To send your pet to visit someone on this list, left-click their row to select them, then left-click on the Send Pet button.

4. View Profile Button

To view the Owner Profile of someone on this list, left-click their row to select them, then left-click on the View Profile button.

5. View Mode Button

Left-click this button to toggle between List Mode, which shows only the names, locations, and login status of your friends, and Portrait Mode, which shows you each of their Owner Portraits.

6. Show Previous Friend Button

Click this button to go back to the previous friend list after viewing someone’s list of friends.

7. Status Dropdown

Click on this button to choose how your online status will be presented to other users. The available settings are:
Online – Means you are online and available for chatting.
Offline – Makes you appear offline even if you are logged-in.
Away – Means you are currently away from your computer.
Eating – Means you’ve stepped out for a bite.
Busy – Means you are doing something important and you do not want to be disturbed.

8. ID Header

Left-click this button to sort your list by ID in alphabetical order. Left-click and drag the border of the button to expand or contract its column.

9. Status Header

Left-click this button to sort your list by online status. Left-click and drag the borders of the button to expand or contract its column.

10. Location Header

Left-click this button to sort your list by location. Left-click and drag the borders of the button to expand or contract its column.

11. Degree Icon

This icon represents how many steps a person on the list is removed from you. The icons are:
Friend (Looks like a green heart) – This person is on your Friend List.
Friend of a Friend (Looks like two cat heads) – This person is a friend of someone on your Friend List.
Three Degrees or More (Looks like a grey question mark) – This person is not in your immediate social network.

12. View Manual Entry Button

To view the Manual entry for this dialog, click on the question mark.

You can chat with people on your Friends List using the Instant Chat dialog. GoPets Instant Chat works similarly to other chat clients you may have used – it enables you to exchange messages in real-time with any logged-in member of your immediate circle of friends.

How to Open an Instant Chat Dialog

Left-click on the Friends button on the Main Menu, then left-click on one of the names in your Friend List to highlight it, then left-click on the Instant Chat button on the Friend List OR
Right-click on a visiting GoPet and select “Chat with Owner” from the right-click menu

1. Owner Portrait

The Owner Portrait of the user with whom you are chatting is displayed here. Left-click the Owner Portrait to view that person’s Owner Profile.

2. Pet Portraits

The portrait(s) of the GoPet(s) owned by the user with whom you are chatting are displayed here. Left-click a Pet Portrait to view that GoPet’s Pet Profile.

3. Chat History Window

This window displays everything that has been typed by both participants of a chat session, with the most recent exchange at the bottom of the list. To view an earlier part of the session, left-click the scroll bar to the right of this window and drag it upward.

4. Enter Chat Text Window

Left click inside this window to activate your chat cursor and type a message. To send the message, hit Enter. You may resize this window relative to the Chat History window by left-clicking on the blue border that divides the two windows and dragging it upward or downward.

5. “Recipient Writing” Indicator

When the user with whom you are chatting is typing a message to you, this indicator is displayed.

6. Resize Dialog Tab

Left-click and drag this tab to resize the Instant Chat Dialog.

To view the Manual entry for this dialog, click on the question mark.
