IKU is a language that uses pictures instead of words, allowing users who speak different languages to send messages to one another. You can find the picture that
corresponds to the word you want by typing in that word in your own language – you are then provided with all the IKU icons that match that word. If you can’t find an
icon to match the word you want, you can upload your own IKU icon image to the IKU Dictionary! When someone receives an IKU message, they can hover their mouse pointer
above any IKU icon to view its text definition in both your language and their own language.
The IKU Palette contains all the basic controls for searching for and creating new IKU icons. When you type a word into the text box, you receive a lineup of the available IKU icons associated with that word. To view more IKU icons for that word, click the arrows on either side of the icon lineup. To use an icon in an IKU message, open a new Message Sheet by clicking on the New Message button and then drag the icon from the Message Palette to the Message Sheet.

An IKU Message Sheet is the blank page upon which you create an IKU message. It consists of rows of empty bubbles into which you can drag IKU icons from the IKU Palette. The Message Sheet can be resized to accommodate messages large and small, and you can move icons around the message by left-clicking them and dragging from bubble to bubble. You can create arrows and solid connectors to define the relationships between bubbles, and you can reverse an icon’s meaning by crossing it out. Once you’ve completed an IKU message, the sending controls are very similar to those of an email – simply type in the user ID of the recipient or search for their name in your Address Book.
